This book is very, very easy to read. It's written at about a fourth grade level and needed a good editor. The dialogue is stilted, unrealistic and pretty darn boring. You could cut the repetitions and the extra words out without a problem and it might tighten up to be a decent book. The author details every little thing constantly even if it does nothing to advance the plot or add to characterization. And the plot? Really poor.The author's worst problem is that there was a clear lack of research. Anyone who gets a guard dog needs to be well-trained and not just given a set of printed directions. It's not fair to the dog to put it in a situation where it and the new owner have not repeatedly practiced together. It's also dangerous for family members and strangers. The story is interesting and has a soap opera tone. Kat a woman who is conservative and lives in a small town of low-middle class to upper middle class individuals who probably go to church every Sunday has a knack for gossip. They gossip at the country club, the hair dresser's shop etc.Well Kat learns this the hard way when she starts selling romance semi-erotica novels under the title Sexy Sissy.The major mystery begins when her semi-conservative editor is murdered.The suspects is her editor's uptight husband who speaks like an angry preacher against the filth she sells and hates she used his wife to edit the filth.The second suspect is a trophy wife to an older man whose part of the country club whose having a legitimate affair and acting like one of Kat's characters.I read Halstead home and they had more characters to choose from who did it then this novel. I should like Hallstead more but I prefer this one bc it was written like a straight up detective novel and it was as though I was watching a TV show the way it flowed from one scene to another.I'd give this novel a PG-13 for sexual suggestion. However, there was really no filth in this book at all. It was surrounded more by gossip of who do you think is Sexy Sissy the writer and whose having an affair. I guess think Gossip Girl meet Angela Lansbury "Murder She Wrote" tv series meet Jackie Collins novel.
